Hi, my name is Kameron and I’m a Shiba Inu dog owner.
Yes, that is intended to sound like I’m attending an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting. If you’re a Shiba Inu owner, you know what I’m talking about. These are difficult dogs to own. We need a fellowship, right? A support group can really help to know you’re not alone. This blog is intended to provide a platform to provide historical information, education, support, and current trends along with entertaining stories.
So, how did I become a Shiba Inu owner? Well, truth is, the dog I’m referring to is my brother’s dog. His name is Beau Jackson! The story begins with my brother’s 15th birthday, almost five years ago. He was fascinated with the Meme Doge that skyrocketed in popularity in 2013.

It’s a beautiful dog and a great size, too. They only weigh between 17 and 23 pounds. It is small, but not too small.
We almost didn’t have a Beau in the family. First, we already had an older dog, Scooter. He was a Doxle, Dachshund Beagle, that was in his later years of life and my mom didn’t want two dogs in the house. After my mom did brief research about Shiba Inus on the internet, her answer was an absolute “no”. She learned that this was a very difficult breed. As my brother’s birthday grew closer she tried to plan a fun birthday event with his friends and asked what he wanted. His only response was that he wanted nothing if he couldn’t get a Shiba Inu. My mom was wearing down to the idea of a second dog since Scooter was older and getting sick. She suggested several other breeds to my brother, but the Shiba Inu was all he wanted. My parents were recently divorced so I think she trying to do all she could to keep everyone happy. I was excited about a new Shiba Inu puppy, too!
Who could resist this face?

My mom was sold after the first kiss! How could this loveable creature be anything but wonderful? Right?!

My mom was smart about how she approached owning a Shiba Inu. She made sure we knew what we were getting ourselves into… or, at least we thought we knew. All I can say is that it has truly been an adventure. This blog will share lessons we’ve learned, the joy we’ve shared, and our craziest Shiba Beau episodes. I hope it will serve as a great place for Shiba owners to commiserate, laugh and learn. It should also help those thinking about buying or adopting a Shiba Inu. Let’s talk!
